The history of Ram Janmabhoomi dates back centuries. According to the ancient Indian epic, Ramayana, Lord Rama was born in Ayodhya. In the 16th century, the Mughals constructed a mosque, the Babri Masjid, at the site of Ram Janmabhoomi. The mosque was demolished in 1992, leading to communal riots across India. The Supreme Court of India ruled in favor of the construction of the temple in 2019. Hindus believe that Lord Ram was born in Ayodhya. It is said that the city of Ayodhya was established by Lord Rama's ancestor Vivaswan (Surya), son of Vaivaswat Manu. The rule of Suryavanshi kings in Ayodhya continued till the Mahabharata period. Lord Ram was born in Dasharatha palace of Ayodhya. According to Hindus, there was a grand temple at the birthplace of Lord Ram in Ayodhya, which was demolished by the Mughal invader Babar and a mosque was built there. The Ram Janmabhoomi complex in Ayodhya will be of 108 acres. Currently this campus is around 75 acres. With the order of the Supreme Court, Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has got a little more than 67.77 acres of land for the temple and its related construction.
